Skyfire browser - first impressions
Dave | August 21, 2008So I signed up for the private beta a few days ago….we’ll call it Sunday but I’m not positive. Either way my invitation came via text message within a week which is very reasonable considering the amount of attention they’ve been receiving. I know you want the good stuff though…so here it comes!! Skyfire is a new (still in beta) browser for the Windows Mobile platform that promises REAL desktop browsing from your phone. Speed, audio, video, the works!! This browser is amazing! That’s really all that you can say. It’s amazing to not have to worry about going to a site and receiving something completely different than you would see on your desktop counterparts. No worrying about videos (or stupid flash ads for that matter) not showing up and I was just watching the olympics. Now granted the 800w screen is not the best for watching videos but it does the job and everything was running smooth. There was no sign of a network hiccup or any time of slow down. I’ll get into it more when I get to really test it and also I want to look more at the privacy settings because from what I understand everything runs through their servers first to get formatted for our phones. I don’t really think anything wireless is very secure, but I might not be doing any banking on there though.
